Health Insurance – The Risks of Cancelling your Health Insurance Policy

Health insurance really is a must have in the current climate but, unfortunately, many families are finding themselves in an untenable position when it comes to making ends meet each month and according to the findings from uSwitch, as many as 42% of the people they surveyed had cancelled their health insurance policies in an attempt to help make their financial arrears more manageable. It is important to realise, however, that when it comes to areas of outgoings that can be cut, removing health insurance really should be carefully considered because there are risks that you subject yourself and your family to if you don't have sufficient levels of health insurance in place in the event of accident or emergency. It is, of course, prudent to explore avenues by which you can cut expenditure in the midst of the credit crunch but experts invariably agree that removing health insurance should only be considered as a last resort.

Health Insurance - Alarming Statistics Begin to Emerge

The credit crunch in the UK has obviously been tumultuous for many people's financial situations but statistics that recently emerged reveal just how much of an impact it has had on people's feelings towards health insurance. According to the report from uSwitch, some 15% of those surveyed had cancelled a private health insurance policy and 13% had done away with an income protection plan in an attempt to improve their financial security. This is a very risky manoeuvre, however, and most agree that consumers should do all they can to ensure that they have adequate health insurance coverage.

Health Insurance - Giving your Family Protection

With this in mind, Ashton Berkhauer of uSwitch, states, "It is not surprising that consumers are looking for ways to cut their spending. However, there is a big difference between cutting down on luxuries or your weekly shop and cutting out on life assurance or pension savings. The potential impact on you or your family finances if you get it wrong could be huge and long lasting, so it is important to go into it with your eyes wide open." It is clearly apparent that health insurance is an expenditure that some consumers feel is expendable but, in actuality, it may well save you considerable stress and money in the long run.
